Meet up at the cafe on the 4th floor of Whitechapel Idea Store, 321 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1BU (nearest tube station Whitechapel)

In the last decade we have seen upheavals and political movements in countries such as Egypt with the Arab Spring, in the U.S. with Bernie Sanders and the Black Lives Matter movement, in Spain with Podemos and here in Britain the Corbyn surge has upended British politics. All of these movements have sought change. This discussion will look into what kind of organisation will be needed to change society.

Socialist Students actions against uni fees on Budget Day

  • Tories out - Corbyn in
  • Scrap uni fees!

Wednesday 22nd November 2017

Jeremy Corbyn's pledge to introduce free education had an electrifying effect during his election campaign. The abolition of fees is not a pipe dream. On the basis of a mass movement that forces the Tories from office, it is achievable. That's why Socialist Students is organising 'Education Shutdown' protests, walkouts, strikes and occupations around the country on the government's Budget Day, and is demanding that the National Union of Students mobilises its members and resources in a bold mass campaign for free education.

What support should socialists give to those struggling for national self-determination and independence? Marx called on 'workers of the world to unite'; does that mean that we should therefore oppose all forms of nationalism?

Wednesday 6th December 2017, 7:30pm

Goldsmiths University, room RHB 200a, Richard Hoggart building, Lewisham Way, London SE14 6NW

Emissions of greenhouse gases that cause climate change have escalated to critical levels. They threaten catastrophe, even endangering life on the planet in the long term. A change in our social system is the only way we can live in harmony with the natural world in the foreseeable future.
