Socialist Party National trade Union meeting

Open to all members of the Socialist Party

Saturday 30 August

11.30am - 4.30pm

Conway Hall, Red Lion Square,

Holborn, London.

Nearest tube Holborn.

Agenda

1. What is the way forward for the trade unions and workers' struggles in Britain?

2. Reports of the Socialist Party's work in the unions.

A discussion on how to develop and expand a strong base for Marxism in every union today.

The developments across the unions in Britain are beginning to change the face of the class struggle.

The capitalist press has belatedly woken up to the situation as they try to explain the reason for the elections of the new Left trade union leaders.

After years of telling us that workers are not interested in acting together to further their interests, they now find it difficult to explain current events.

The Socialist Party has deep roots in the unions and we have explained many times the process of disillusionment in the union leaders, who offered little but 'partnership' and class collaboration with the bosses.

The problems of the Blair government have been highlighted by these elections with most of the new leaders declaring their opposition to the policies of New Labour.

How far will this process continue? How can the Socialist Party develop further support in the workplaces and the unions? What policies should we be fighting for now?

All Socialist Party members are invited to come to this important meeting.

If you need accommodation for the Friday night then contact Bill Mullins or Ken Smith on 020 8988 8764 or 020 8988 8778.

Coronavirus crisis - Finance appeal

The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.

The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.

The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.

  • The Socialist Party's material is more vital than ever, so we can continue to report from workers who are fighting for better health and safety measures, against layoffs, for adequate staffing levels, etc.
  • Our 'fighting coronavirus workers' charter', outlines a programme to combat the virus and protect workers' living conditions.
  • When the health crisis subsides, we must be ready for the stormy events ahead and the need to arm workers' movements with a socialist programme - one which puts the health and needs of humanity before the profits of a few.
Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.
We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to donate to our special coronavirus appeal.
