Stockland Green march for jobs

Stockland Green Against the Cuts (SGAC) organised a successful protest and march for youth jobs in Erdington, Birmingham, on 19 May.

Around 20 people assembled for a noisy demo, then marched down the busy high street before returning to the campaign stalls for a rally.

The protest, supported by the Socialist Party and Youth Fight for Jobs, demanded the reintroduction of EMA, an end to workfare and for the creation of decent jobs for young people.

The march passed some notorious workfare youth-exploiters including Greggs and Holland and Barrett. It also passed Erdington Jobcentre and local Labour MP Jack Dromey's office. Labour has won control of the city council, but as Liverpool, Manchester and other towns have shown, that party is more than willing to do the Con-Dems' dirty work and slash vital services.

Alongside trade union action well organised anti-cuts campaigns, which are rooted in the community, are key to defending working class people and our communities from cuts to services and jobs.
