Support the final sprint to the fighting fund quarter finish line
Ken Douglas, Socialist Party national treasurer
With one week to go, Socialist Party members are going all out to ensure that we reach the target of £25,000 by 29 June.
Some are even going that extra mile - or more: Steve Score and Drew Walton from Leicester Socialist Party both went an extra 13 miles as they ran in the Sheffield half-marathon!
Steve raised over £180 for the fighting fund in sponsorship and Drew raised £15 and sold 13 copies of the Socialist by running with a collecting bucket. Flushed with success, Steve is planning to run in the Leicester half-marathon in October while Drew is upgrading to the full marathon.
The Socialist Party depends on the support of ordinary people for its funding. This is because we fight for the interests of working class people, and not for the interests of big business.
This is unlike the Tory leaders Hunt, Cameron and Osborne, and New Labour's Blair and Brown before them, who were shown by the Leveson inquiry to have fallen over themselves to do Rupert Murdoch's bidding.
Murdoch's newspapers attack public and private sector workers and relentlessly advocate austerity for us, but not for FTSE 100 chief executives who enjoyed a 10% pay increase. A quarter of these chief execs had a 41% pay rise!
Can you make a donation - via our website www.socialistparty.org.uk/donate or by telephoning 020 8988 8777 - to help raise the £5,000 needed to reach our target for the quarter? Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help us on our way.

Finance appeal
The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.
The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.
- The Socialist Party's material is more vital than ever, so we can continue to report from workers who are fighting for better health and safety measures, against layoffs, for adequate staffing levels, etc.
- We must be ready for the stormy events ahead and the need to arm workers' movements with a socialist programme - one which puts the health and needs of humanity before the profits of a few.
Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.
We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to donate to our Fighting Fund.
