RMT members vote for Network Rail strike
RMT members working for Network Rail, including signal and maintenance workers, have voted by four-to-one to strike over pay and job security on a 60% turnout.
92% voted in favour of action short of a strike. TSSA and Unite are also balloting their members.
The current pay offer is a £500 lump sum for this year followed by Retail Price Index-linked pay changes for 2016-18. RPI is currently 0%! The 'no compulsory redundancies' promise only lasts until December 2016.
The action would be the first national rail strike for 20 years. The last strike, on Network Rail's predecessor Railtrack, resulted in two-thirds of trains being cancelled.
RMT members on London's Docklands Light Railway have voted by over 80% for strike action over pay and working conditions.
