Can you increase your membership subs (regular donation)? This is the question the Socialist Party is asking all our members.

Over the last few weeks many have pledged increases totalling 3,000, but we still have a way to go to reach our target of an extra 4,000 a month income by Christmas. The Socialist Party has no rich backers. All our campaigns and events are financed by donations from members and supporters.

Popular ideas

The last few months have shown how popular socialist ideas are. The overwhelming victory of Jeremy Corbyn in the Labour leadership contest, and the excellent junior doctors protests, show that years of austerity are pushing the majority of the 99% towards the ideas of socialism.

We are the only party with a clear strategy to defend Corbyn's victory from the Blairites, and make sure there is a party that can represent working class people in Britain.

We are at the forefront of the main struggles today - against the Tories' trade union bill, helping prevent evictions and campaigning for local councils to refuse to implement Tory cuts. We need to have the resources to reach as many people as possible, and respond quickly to events.

Some members have made very substantial increases - eight are now paying over 100 a month, and another eight have increased their subs to over 50. Many on low incomes have made big increases too. One member in Sheffield has increased from 8 to 9, another from Southampton has doubled their subs from 10 to 20.

Every penny

If you can't make a big percentage increase, can you make an inflation related increase to help us cope with constantly increasing bills? No increase is too small. Every penny counts.

If you would like to discuss increasing your subs, you can speak to your branch treasurer, call the socialist party finance department on 0208 988 8777 or email finance@socialistparty.org.uk

Coronavirus crisis - Finance appeal

The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.

The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.

The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.

  • The Socialist Party's material is more vital than ever, so we can continue to report from workers who are fighting for better health and safety measures, against layoffs, for adequate staffing levels, etc.
  • Our 'fighting coronavirus workers' charter', outlines a programme to combat the virus and protect workers' living conditions.
  • When the health crisis subsides, we must be ready for the stormy events ahead and the need to arm workers' movements with a socialist programme - one which puts the health and needs of humanity before the profits of a few.
Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.
We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to donate to our special coronavirus appeal.
