Fast Food Rights action - 15th April

Press release from Youth Fight for Jobs

Global Day of Action - Wednesday 15th April

On Wednesday 15th April, fast food and other low-paid workers in the USA will be taking part in what could be the biggest day of strikes, occupations and protests yet in their fight for a $15/hour minimum wage.

In Britain, the Youth Fight for Jobs campaign is working with the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers' Union (BFAWU) in the Fast Food Rights coalition to organise solidarity protests up and down the country. Wednesday's protests will be part of a 'Join a Union Day', encouraging unorganised workers to get organised, so the tide of low pay and casual work can be reversed.

Below is a list of the protests planned so far. If you would like to speak to zero-hour contract and low-paid workers joining Wednesday's protests, please contact Youth Fight for Jobs on 0776 658 5543.

Youth Fight for Jobs was launched in 2009 in response to rising levels of youth unemployment. In 2011, it organised the 330 mile Jarrow March for Jobs, supported by Unite, PCS, RMT, CWU, UCU, FBU, BECTU and TSSA trade unions. It supports raising the minimum wage to 10/hour and works with the Bakers, Food, & Allied Workers' Union (BFAWU) in the Fast Food Rights campaign aiming to organise currently unorganised workers into the trade union movement.
